Elle McLeland is a writer from Amarillo, Texas (the place with the big steak). Her work is comedy, at least she thinks so, and frequently focuses on female-led stories, transgender and queer perspectives on family, and tales rooted in absurdism. She studied classical music and broadcast news at the University of North Texas, then lived between Singapore and New York for two years while earning her MFA in writing from NYU Tisch. She’s an occasional stand-up comic, an avid reader, and a casual bassoonist.
Elle moved to Los Angeles after grad school. In addition to tutoring rich children, delivering junk mail, and writing fake Yelp reviews, she worked various jobs on The Catch (ABC), SMILF (Showtime), and Transparent (Amazon) to pay the bills and buy groceries twice a year.
Elle’s currently a staff writer on Transparent, where she gets to eat candy, write about her feelings, and cry all day. It’s a dream come true.
