Marissa Jo Cerar is a WGA Award Nominated writer who grew up as one of eight adopted misfits in Athens, Illinois. Life as the only person of color in rural Illinois was unique, to say the least, because she only saw people who looked her on television. Her credits include The Fosters, Shots Fired, 13 Reasons Why, and The Handmaid’s Tale. She has three feature projects in various stages of development: Love Warrior a memoir adaptation for Harpo Films, The Other Typist, a novel adaptation for Fox Searchlight, and her original script Conversion, which sold to indie financier K Period Media.
She is currently running a virtual mini-room as showrunner, EP, and creator of ABC’s limited civil rights series Women of the Movement.
